Brenda McElroy was elected as City Commissioner in November 2018 and began her service to the community in January 2019. Commissioner McElroy is a native Missourian, raised in St. Louis, and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After marrying Brad and moving to Columbia, she worked for ten years at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics as an obstetrics nurse and maternal-child patient care manager.
Upon moving to Paducah in 1989, McElroy dedicated herself to raising her four children, all K-12 graduates of the Paducah City Schools. Beth is a PA, married to Matt Hill and lives in Tulsa with their three children, Caroline, Henry and Georgia. Scott is a radiologist, married to Emily and will be moving with daughter, Ella, to Paducah. Kristen, a teacher, is married to Connor Ojard and lives in New Orleans with their two daughters, Anna James and Emerson. Alli is also a teacher and recently married Brandon Perry in Birmingham, where they now reside.
Throughout her years in Paducah, Commissioner McElroy has immersed herself in many volunteer opportunities and served on the staff of First Baptist Church as the Women’s Ministry and Guest Services Director. Volunteer organizations she has proudly served include Parent Teacher Student Organization, Athletic Booster Clubs, Clark Elementary Tutor/Mentor, Medical Alliance President and Scholarship Chair, Fleur De Lis Garden Club President, St. Nicholas Clinic, Bible and Parenting Class Teacher, and Starfish Orphan Ministry currently as a weekly volunteer.
McElroy's husband, Brad, is a cardiologist with The Heart Group at Baptist Health Paducah. Together they have been involved in international missions.
More than thirty years ago, Commissioner McElroy and her husband, Brad, chose Paducah for their home. In her role as city commissioner, she will strive to make decisions that will help many others choose Paducah too!
In serving as City Commissioner, she is a member of the Paducah-McCracken County Joint Sewer Agency Board.
