Carol Gault was first elected to the City Commission in November 2008. Two weeks following the election, Commissioner Gault was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Commissioner Buz Smith. She began serving her elected term in January 2009 and was re-elected in November 2010, November 2012, November 2014, and for her current term in 2020.
Commissioner Gault is a current business owner and served as the Program Manager of Paducah Main Street, Inc. which began her involvement with the City of Paducah. She holds a political science degree from Murray State University.
Her community involvement includes board member for the BBQ on the River Organization Committee, Charity League Associate, Paducah Ambassador, Paducah Day Nursery Past President, and Midtown Alliance of Neighbors Past Treasurer. She also has served as a member of the Easter Seals West Kentucky Board of Directors and worked to share information about Easter Seals by hosting the program Easter Seals Today on Paducah-2. Other organizations Commissioner Gault has been active in include the Washington Street Community Development Corporation, the Paducah-McCracken County Emergency Communication Services Board (E911), the Paducah-McCracken County Joint Sewer Agency Board, and the Mayor's Anti-Bullying Task Force. Commissioner Gault most recently served on the City of Paducah’s code enforcement board until she began her most recent term.
In June 2015, Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear appointed her as a member of the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway Development Authority.
In serving as City Commissioner, she serves on the Paducah-McCracken County Joint Sewer Agency Board.

The official inauguration ceremony for the Paducah Board of Commissioners was held December 28, 2020, at City Hall. Attorney Mark Bryant officiated Commissioner Gault's oath of office.
