Child Safety Seats

The Paducah Fire Department is associated with the Safe Communities Program.  Each of Paducah's 5 fire stations is a Car Seat Check Station.  Each station is a permanent Kentucky fitting station recognized on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. Several of our Firefighters have attended special training to become certified Car Seat Technicians.

By appointment, you can have your child safety seat inspected and installed correctly by one of our Car Seat Techs.  This is a free service.  So far, more than 4,000 car seats have been checked by these fitting stations, with only a handful of child safety seats meeting proper installation requirements.

Traffic-related injuries are the leading cause of death for children and young adults ages one to twenty-seven. Although most parents use car safety seats for young children, statistics show that 97 percent are installed incorrectly.  For more information about child safety seats including recalls and defects, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
