INSTANT Emergency Information
Some basic emergency and disaster survival facts:
- You'll still be here after it happens.
- You'll want to help.
- You'll only be able to draw upon previous training and common
sense.
- You won't panic. That only happens in the movies!
- You may be "on your own" for a while. Communications
may be hampered or overloaded.
- What you, as the average american citizen can do WILL make
a difference.
DON'T
- CALL 911 to ask questions. 911 is for emergencies ONLY.
- DRIVE THROUGH WATER COVERING THE ROAD.
- TOUCH DOWNED LINES AFTER A STORM.
- TOUCH TREES THAT ARE INVOLVED IN DOWNED LINES.

DES Response units monitor Channel 9 on CB (Citizens Band), and
Channel 9 on FRS (Family Radio Service) citizen radios.
Emergency information will be broadcast via the Emergency Alert
System on your local radio and T.V. Stations. Know what to do
ahead of time. When the Disaster happens, YOU will be the first
responder on the scene.
In earthquakes, 75-percent of Rescues are performed by average
citizens who were there at the time of the tremor. Be prepared
in advance!
