What to do when The Sirens Sound

Paducah and McCracken County are served by 13 outdoor Warning Sirens.

They're tested the first Saturday of the month at 1:00pm. If you hear the sirens AT ANY OTHER TIME, tune into a local broadcast radio or television station to find official instructions.
In the event of a TORNADO WARNING: Seek shelter in a basement, or in an windowless interior room on the first floor of a structure. DO NOT stay in your vehicle. DO NOT stay in a mobile home.

In the event of Severe Weather in the area, siren testing may be postponed until the next Saturday at 1:00pm. This is to avoid confusion about whether it's a real Weather Emergency or just the test.

The sirens are activated for Tornadoes, and for other threatening emergencies that require immediate action by the public.
The Emergency could involve severe weather events such as Tornados, or Flash Flooding. Or, it could involve a chemical release accident or other Emergency requiring evacuation or sheltering-in-place.

Tune into local broadcast radio or TV for official instructions when you hear the sirens other than the once a month test time.

The sirens are located at:

  • The Irvin Cobb Hotel, 6th and Broadway
  • Oak Grove Cemetery, on Park Avenue at 15th Street
  • Intersection of Irvin Cobb Drive and Bridge Street
  • Old Mayfield Road near Chester Hack Drive
  • Jackson Street at Lone Oak Road
  • Lone Oak Road and I-24 (Lourdes Hospital)
  • Lone Oak Road at Cave Thomas Drive
  • US 45 near Lebanon Church Road (St. Johns)
  • Old Mayfield Road at the Freemont Fire Station
  • Reidland at Exit 16 and I-24
  • Reidland at US 62 and Park Drive
  • Hinkleville Road near Olivet Church Road
  • Metropolis Lake Road at Heath High School

The Outdoor Warning Sirens are a cooperative venture between the Paducah-McCracken County 911 board, and Paducah-McCracken County Office of Emergency Management under the McCracken Co. Fiscal Court and the Paducah City Commission.
