The community is invited to come downtown on Saturday, April 15 to help with the beautification of historic downtown Paducah. Spring Spruce Up will be from 8:30 a.m. until noon. During that time, volunteers, downtown residents, and businesses will spend time beautifying the flower beds and planters.
Downtown Development Specialist-Paducah Main Street Director Melinda Winchester says, “This is a chance to show your community pride and help clean up and beautify the heart of Paducah. This year, we are expecting even more visitors to Paducah with two quilt shows, Paducah Fall Fiber Festival, UNESCO Conference, additional showboats, the opening of the Holiday Inn Paducah Riverfront hotel, new conventions, and, of course, the mainstay events that have been a part of downtown over the last few years.”
Volunteers are asked to meet at the gazebo at 2nd and Broadway at 8:30 a.m. for instructions. Volunteers will be assigned an area including the gazebo area, sections of Broadway, 3rd Street, and sections of Kentucky Avenue and Jefferson Street. A group of volunteers will be working on the landscaping in front of the floodwall murals. All of the mulch and plants will be on site that morning. Plants are being provided by Phelps Farm Store with the mulch provided by the Paducah Parks Department.
Partners for this event include volunteers, the City of Paducah Parks Department, Paducah Main Street (a division of the Paducah Planning Department), Adopt-A-Spot participants, and downtown stakeholders.
