2019 Labor Day Holiday Schedule

City Hall:  City Hall located at 300 South 5th Street and the Parks & Recreation Department office located at 1400 H.C. Mathis Drive will be closed Monday, September 2 for the Labor Day holiday.  

Labor Day Parade:  The 44th Annual Labor Day Parade conducted by the Western Kentucky Labor Day Committee will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 2.  The parade, which attracts on average 40 to 60 entries, will follow Broadway starting at 2nd Street and then head west on Broadway until it disbands at Fountain Avenue (17th Street).  The parade route will close at 9 a.m. and remain closed until the parade safely passes.  The theme of this year’s parade is It Takes U and I to Make Union.  Following the parade, there will be entertainment at Carson Park until 5 p.m. including live music, food vendors, and activities for children.

Pets are allowed at parades.  However, for the public’s safety, Chapter 14 of the City of Paducah Code of Ordinances lists requirements to bring a dog to a special community event such as a parade or festival.  The dog must be licensed by McCracken County Animal Control or by any other state or county and restrained by a leash or lead that is no longer than three feet.

Sprayground and Splashpad:  The Robert Coleman Sprayground at the corner of Walter Jetton Boulevard and Husbands Street and the Splashpad at the Pat & Jim Brockenborough Rotary Health Park located at 421 North 13th Street are open daily 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. through the Labor Day holiday.  They will close for the season once the weather turns cooler.

Engineering-Public Works Department:  Below are the changes to the Engineering-Public Works Department’s schedule for the Labor Day holiday.                                                  

  • Curbside Recycling:  City crews will collect recyclables Tuesday, September 3 for Paducah households that have recyclables collected curbside on the first and third Mondays of the month.  There will not be a collection on Labor Day, September 2.   
  • Compost Facility:  The Compost Facility located at 1560 North 8th Street will be closed on Labor Day.
  • Garbage Collection:  The garbage collection schedule will NOT change for the Labor Day week.
  • Freedom Waste Recycling Drop-Off Facility:  The recycling drop-off facility operated by Freedom Waste located at 400 State Street is open Labor Day.  The facility is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.  As part of the contract between the City of Paducah and Freedom Waste, there is no charge for the general public to drop off recyclables.
