All five City of Paducah fire stations including two off-duty crews responded to a fire this morning at 2309 South 25th Street, a building that houses five apartments at the Housing Authority of Paducah’s Elmwood Court location. Each apartment is leased to one resident. The call was dispatched at 9:13 a.m. The building is severely damaged and will not be able to be occupied at this time. Fire crews assessed the two neighboring buildings. Families can return to those two buildings.
A couple of Housing Authority residents reported minor injuries. Furthermore, a Paducah Police officer went to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation.
Housing Authority Executive Director Tommy Hollimon says the Housing Authority has vacant units at its various properties so that residents displaced from the building at 2309 South 25th Street can be housed. Also, the Western Kentucky Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the families.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
