2014 Parade Information
The 2014 City of Paducah Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, December 6 in downtown Paducah. The parade begins at 5 p.m. at 14th and Broadway and travels down Broadway until it turns at 2nd Street and disbands at Madison Street. “Christmastime at the Movies” is the theme for this year’s parade with music and lights required on all entries. Santa Claus will make a special appearance at the end of the parade on the official Santa float.
This year the City is proud to honor Paducah Power System retiree Erich Vierkant as Christmas Parade Grand Marshal. Each year starting in October he volunteers his time to get the Christmas in the Park light display installed at Noble Park. The lights for the 18th annual display will be turned on at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 28. Mayor Gayle Kaler recognized Vierkant at the November 18 City Commission meeting thanking him for his dedication to the Christmas in the Park display. During Christmas in the Park, community volunteers collect donations of money and nonperishable food items for local agencies. To date, nearly $500,000 has been collected in addition to more than 605,000 pounds of food.
Parade entries will marshal on Broadway between 13th and Fountain Avenue, on Fountain Avenue between Broadway and Jefferson, and on Jefferson between 13th and Fountain Avenue. Streets will be closed in the staging area beginning at 3 p.m. on December 6. Streets along the parade route will close at 4 p.m. The Parks Services Department also asks the public to refrain from parking in the parade preparation area from 3 to 6 p.m. to help limit the congestion of vehicles and floats.
The deadline to enter a float is Friday, November 14 at 5 p.m. Late entries will incur a $25 fee and will not be accepted after November 21 at 5 p.m.
