The Clyde F. Boyles Greenway Trail currently has two completed sections with two more phases planned. The trail is open to non-motorized traffic from dawn to dusk. Once completed, the Greenway Trail will stretch 5.3 miles linking residential neighborhoods with the Perkins Creek Nature Preserve, three city parks, and the riverfront. The City has set up a Greenway Trail Donation Fund to accept monetary donations for use in the ongoing construction of the Greenway Trail.
The Clyde F. Boyles Greenway Trail is funded in part thanks to income from an endowment from the Boyles estate. Lanelle Boyles, who died December 31, 2005, bequeathed a portion of the estate to the City of Paducah to be used for walking and biking trails in memory of her husband, Clyde F. Boyles. The endowment is managed by the Community Foundation of West Kentucky, Inc.
The Greenway Trail will link the following parks when completed:
Perkins Creek Nature Preserve
Stuart Nelson Park
Noble Park
Schultz Park
Existing Trail Segments
County Park Road to Noble Park:
This segment of trail is mainly a fine rocky surface which is soft for walkers and joggers but great for bicyclists, too. The trail length is nearly 1.75 miles with distance markers every quarter mile. The trail extends from County Park Road to Noble Park. It winds its way behind Bluegrass Downs and bisects the Disc Golf Course at Stuart Nelson Park. The best locations to access the trail and park are at Stuart Nelson Park and Noble Park. At Stuart Nelson Park, the trail is at the back of the park next to the Disc Golf Course and circles around next to the ball fields. At Noble Park, the trailhead is next to the Skatepark and the ball fields. Ample parking is available at Noble Park. Benches are also along the trail. This segment of trail was unveiled at a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 1, 2008.

North 8th Street (U.S. 45X) to Campbell Street (next to Paducah Expo Center):
After an official groundbreaking ceremony on August 3, 2012, this segment of trail was completed in 2013. This section of the Greenway Trail, funded in part by a 2006 federal Transportation Enhancement grant, has added approximately 8800 linear feet (1.67 miles) of concrete trail for pedestrians and bicyclists to enjoy. The trail starts on the east side of North 8th Street (U.S. 45X) behind the Smoke Shop near the Brookport Bridge and winds along the top of the floodwall earthen levee toward downtown ending at Campbell Street next to the Paducah Expo Center. The best place to park is at the Expo Center.
Future Trail Segments
Noble Park to North 8th Street:
A future stretch of the greenway trail, which is awaiting approval from the State, will connect the two existing trail segments. Construction is expected to begin in 2013. This phase is funded in part by a federal Transportation Enhancement grant. The trail will begin at Noble Park next to the Skatepark and wind along the top of the floodwall earthen levee. The trail will involve crossing Cairo Road. Signage and pavement markings will be in place to alert the trail-users and drivers. The trail also involves the construction of a 52-foot long lighted underpass to allow the safe crossing of North 8th Street (U.S. 45X). The underpass involves trail-users taking a gentle path off the floodwall levee, traversing the short underpass, and then going back up onto the levee. Retaining walls will be on either end of the underpass as you go up and down the levee. To learn more about this phase and the decision to construct an underpass for the North 8th Street crossing, please watch the February 19 City Commission meeting, view the Greenway Trail Underpass Slides, or read the March 3 Letter to the Editor submitted by the City of Paducah.
Perkins Creeks Nature Preserve:
In August 2009, the City was grateful to receive approval for additional funding to extend the Greenway Trail west through Perkins Creek Nature Preserve. This extension will provide nearly another mile of trail which will be a combination of paved and densely packed gravel with raised walkways.
