September 11, 2010 - 3:00pm
Time: 4 p.m.
Date: Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010
Place: Elmwood Court Basketball Courts
We would like to invite the media to the Paducah Police Department’s inaugural “Community Hoopfest” 3-on-3 basketball event.
Chief James Berry assigned Capt. Shawn Maxie the task of recruiting sponsors and organizing the event, designed to bring together the youth of various neighborhoods in the city for a day of basketball.
Housing Authority of Paducah and Ronald McDonald House Charities are corporate sponsors of the program. Local sponsors are Paducah Power System, the Cappock family, Paducah/McCracken County Drug Council, Lone Oak Trophy, Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home, Poat Family Dentistry, Sign-a-Rama,. Hawkins Screen Printing, Paducah Parks Services, Master Ke’s Barber Shop and the City of Paducah.
The first Hoopfest is for youth, ages 10-18, in the area of Morgan Elementary School and the Elmwood Court community. Additional events will be held next spring – beginning in May – in other communities throughout the city.
The Elmwood Court event will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday on the basketball courts at the housing site. Registration begins at 3 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be held in the girls’ gymnasium at Paducah Tilghman High School.
Pizza, drinks and snacks will be provided for participants. Trophies will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place finishers in each of the following age divisions: 10-12, 13-15 and 16-18.
We encourage the media to cover this event, which we hope will be the first of many successful 3-on-3 Community Hoopfests.
