The City's leaf collection program will begin October 22, 2007 and continue through December 21, 2007, weather permitting.
The City will provide a limited number of plastic leaf bags to each home. Public Works also has a limited supply of biogegradable bags. Residents can pick them up at the Public Works Department, 1120 N. 10th Street between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm Monday through Friday while supplies last.
The City is divided into two Zones (dividing line is 32nd Street), and each Zone is subdivided into five geographic sections. For a map of the collection zones and geographic sections, click here.
The Monday and brush/bulk pick up will be suspended during the leaf pick up period.
Leaf vacuuming is not a priority and will be done periodically in City right-of-ways after all bags have been picked up.
Mulching is one of the best ways to recycle leaves. Many lawn mowers have mulching blades that cut the leaves into small bits. Those mulched leaves provide nutrients to flowerbeds, lawns, and gardens. Mulching is also good for the environment by reducing waste and saving money.
Do NOT burn leaves in the City of Paducah. Leaf burning is banned by a City ordinance.
In 2005, the City's Public Works Department introduced a Pilot Leaf Collection Program to determine ways to increase efficiency and provide better quality services for the citizens of Paducah by bagging and vacuuming leaves. For 2006, the conclusion was that bagging leaves is the quickest and most effective way to collect leaves for Paducah's citizens.
