Opening Ceremony: The Paducah Park Services Department and the Veterans Day Planning Committee invite the public to attend the Veterans Day Parade Opening Ceremony on Monday, November 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the gazebo at 2nd and Broadway. The opening ceremony includes the recognition of the 2013 Distinguished Veteran, Dr. Bradford Mutchler (pictured to the left), who will serve as the parade’s grand marshal. Dr. Mutchler, who was drafted in March 1966, served in the Vietnam War as a surgeon. In 1972, he enter the U.S. Army Reserve as a Major, rose to the rank of Colonel, and served his country assigned to the 807th CSH (Combat Support Hospital) in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. Dr. Mutchler retired from the U.S. Army Reserve in 1999.
The opening ceremony also includes the naming of the non-veteran who will receive the Patriot Award, an award honoring a citizen who dedicates his or her time to serving veterans and veteran causes in this community. The winners of the Veterans Day Essay contest organized by the Daughters of the American Revolution will be introduced, and the first place winners will read their essays for the crowd. This year there are 827 entries in the essay/picture contest.
Parade: The annual Paducah Veterans Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 11 at 2nd and Broadway and travel along Broadway to 17th Street. This year’s parade has 36 entries plus two bands. The WKCTC Television Production Department will record the parade, set it to music, and televise it at a later time on Government 11 and Paducah-2 (for Comcast subscribers).

2013 Veterans Day Concert
The Veterans Day Concert will be held at the Paducah Tilghman High School Auditorium on Monday, November 11, 7-8:30 p.m. The concert will feature the Paducah Community Band under the direction of Kara Boyd in a side-by-side performance with the Lone Oak Middle School 8th grade band. The musical tribute to our local veterans and current service members is open to the public at no charge.
