About the Paducah Warming-Cooling Center
Due to the below-average temperatures, Community Ministries will be opening the Community Kitchen located at 1225 Broadway as a warming center starting November 14, 2014 at 5 p.m. The plan is to stay open during the evenings during this cold snap. For more information contact Community Ministries at 270-575-3400.
The Paducah Warming-Cooling Center will open in December 2014 at Grace Episcopal Church located at 820 Broadway. The permanent home for the Warming Center and the Community Kitchen facility will be 1237 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. That facility is under renovation with the plan to open in January 2015.
The Center will provide a warm, dry and safe environment for local, homeless residents during brief periods of inclement winter weather. The Center will open on nights when the temperature forecast is 40 degrees or lower.
Need for Volunteers
Community Ministries, Inc. needs volunteers to staff the Paducah Warming-Cooling Center for this winter (2014-2015). Mayor Gayle Kaler has been working with Community Ministries, the United Way of Paducah-McCracken County, the Salvation Army, and local banks and churches to organize the warming center.
A staff of volunteers is needed to operate the Warming Center from December 2014 through March 2015. Organizations and individuals interested in staffing the Center should contact the Community Kitchen at 270-575-3400 or firstname.lastname@example.org. A training session will be held Monday, November 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army located at 2990 Trimble Street.
During each evening the Center is open, a two-member team, preferably a male and female, will staff the facility for a shift. Each evening will have three shifts: 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.; 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.; and 4:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. Each volunteer will be on call for a week-long assignment. Light evening and morning meals will be provided for the Center’s visitors.
The Center also needs donations to purchase 20 cots. Community Ministries thanks Paducah Bank, Independence Bank, and Grace Episcopal Church for their donations. Contact the Community Kitchen at 270-575-3400 or email@example.com if you would like to donate. For more information about Community Ministries, visit www.community-ministries.org.
