Date of Release:
September 26, 2024

milling and paving mapOn Monday, September 30, crews will begin the milling and paving of a significant stretch of Jefferson Street and West Jefferson Street. The work extends from the North 28th Street/Joe Clifton Drive intersection to Pines Road. The Pines Road intersection is not included in the project.

Mayor George Bray said, “Each year over the past four years, the City of Paducah has been steadily increasing the amount of money set aside for the annual street rehabilitation budget with $2 million included in the budget for this fiscal year. Our goal is to reach the point where our rehabilitation rate is outpacing the decline in street surfaces. As part of this process we will work to spread the dollars across the city to include those lesser traveled streets within a neighborhood. We are anxious to get the work started on Jefferson, a critical artery for Paducah which a majority of our citizens use frequently.”

On Monday, Charbon Contracting, a subcontractor to Jim Smith Contracting, will begin milling Jefferson Street at North 28th Street/Joe Clifton Drive with the milling operations to head west on Jefferson and West Jefferson toward Pines Road. Weather permitting, Jim Smith Contracting will begin paving operations on Thursday, October 3. Crews will complete the paving of the boulevard section from North 28th to Central Avenue before moving to the section of West Jefferson Street between Central Avenue and Pines Road.

The entire milling and paving project will take approximately two to three weeks. Residents who live along this stretch of Jefferson and West Jefferson streets are requested not to utilize on-street parking while milling and paving operations are underway.

Please use caution, watch for the work crews, and respect the traffic control devices. Crews will work to maintain access to residents and provide one lane of traffic flow; however, there may be brief times when traffic may need to detour. Also, there will be times when concurrent milling and paving operations are taking place at different points along the project length. Flaggers will be present for both operations.

During the next fiscal year, Jefferson Street from North 28th Street to 16th Street will be milled and paved.

The City of Paducah maintains more than 220 miles of streets. Visit Streets for a map showing upcoming paving projects.
