Following the success of last year’s Student Christmas Ornament Contest, Mayor Gayle Kaler is again asking for students to handcraft Christmas ornaments to decorate a tree in the foyer of City Hall. The contest is for all students, kindergarten through 12th grade, who are City of Paducah residents.
Mayor Kaler says, “Last year, we received 130 ornaments, and every single one of them was placed on the Christmas tree that everyone sees when they walk into City Hall.”
“I feel that encouraging artistic talent in young people is so important. The ornaments that really catch my eye are the ones in which students incorporate an aspect of Paducah into their design. They are thinking about the holidays and their community,” adds Mayor Kaler.
The deadline to submit an ornament with a completed Ornament Submission Form to City Hall is Friday, November 14 at 4:30 p.m. No entry fee is required. The top three ornaments in each of the three categories will be recognized at the December 9 City Commission meeting. The judging categories are K-3rd grade, 4th-8th grade, and 9th-12th grade. Ornaments will become the property of the City of Paducah. All ornaments that meet the criteria will be displayed at City Hall.
The criteria for the ornaments are listed below.
