City Facilities Closed to the Public Through May 3 - Garbage Collection Procedures Change Monday

Date of release: March 20, 2020

As the City of Paducah embraces and implements the federal and state directives regarding social distancing to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), we are making additional adjustments to facility access and services.

All City offices will be closed to the public through May 3 until further notice.  This includes City Hall, the front desk at the Paducah Police Department, access to the Fire Stations, the Parks & Recreation Department office, and the Compost Facility.  City services are continuing; however, those needing to contact the City should use other means including phone, email, or online.

The Public Works Department is making changes to garbage collection procedures to protect the employees who collect solid waste.  Effective Monday, all garbage needs to be contained in the rollout. The employees will not be touching trash bags or items left beside the rollout.  Brush and bulk items such as couches and chairs still will be collected.  For commercial customers, all garbage needs to be contained in the dumpster.

City Manager Jim Arndt says, “It’s critical for everyone to do their part to slow the spread of the coronavirus.  We are implementing social distancing standards throughout City government.  Plus, we are practicing good hygiene by disinfecting frequently-used items and reducing or eliminating exposure as much as possible.”

As a reminder, the general information phone number for City government is 270-444-8800.  During normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.), we have Customer Experience Specialists who will take your call and guide you to the appropriate department or service.  After hours, please leave a message.  Furthermore, the Customer Experience Specialists have been provided the Community Resource Guide compiled by the United Way of Paducah-McCracken County.  They can provide contact information for agencies that provide community support and resources.

Those needing to drop off a payment to the Finance Department can use the City Hall drop-box. The box is next to the front door of the building on the 5th Street side.
