The Paducah Fire Department responded to a call at 8:41 p.m. on Friday, November 22, of an explosion at the Dippin’ Dots facility located at 5101 Charter Oak Drive. Four people inside the facility were injured with each of them transported to the hospital by Mercy Regional Ambulance. The medical status of the injured is not known at this time.
In addition to the explosion, there was a liquid nitrogen leak. However, it is not clear if the nitrogen leak caused the explosion or occurred after the explosion. The site has been secured and the processing systems have been isolated to allow for the unaffected parts of the facility to maintain power.
The investigation is underway regarding the cause of the incident.
The Paducah Fire Department worked with Atmos Energy, Jackson Purchase Energy Corporation, and Paducah Water in the response.
