The City of Paducah is holding Firehouse Chili on Friday, November 16 to benefit the United Way of Paducah-McCracken County. Everyone is invited to stop by Fire Station #1 located at 301 Washington Street from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. to purchase chili, chili pie, chili dogs, and/or hot dogs cooked by firefighters. Bring the entire family or office and enjoy lunch at one of the many tables set up in the fire station’s heated bays. Carry out is available, too.
Assistant Fire Chief Gabe Reeves says, “It’s satisfying to know that our efforts in hosting this event reach so many people in our community. Their smiles and laughter are what makes this event a favorite with the Paducah Fire Department. Please come and partake in the good food and friendship.”
City of Paducah Assistant City Clerk Claudia Meeks helps coordinate the lunch. Meeks says, “I encourage everyone to attend this year’s event. Food pantries have shelves that need to be filled as the holidays are approaching. Last year, Firehouse Chili raised more than $1200 dollars. We would like to meet or surpass that amount to assist the United Way in helping meet the community’s needs.”
The City directors provide funds to purchase supplies while members of the Paducah Fire Department furnish the ingredients and cook the chili. Sponsors for this year include Pepsi MidAmerica and Midtown Market. Due to the employee and corporate donations for the food and supplies, 100 percent of the proceeds from the luncheon benefit the United Way of Paducah-McCracken County.
The 2017 Firehouse Chili event provided $1225 for United Way. Annually, City of Paducah employees raise approximately $10,000 through fundraising events such as Firehouse Chili and employee contributions out of paychecks.
