Pictured: New stop sign covered with bag at intersection of Buckner Lane and Sycamore Drive
To enhance pedestrian and vehicular safety, the intersection of Buckner Lane and Sycamore Drive in Paducah will become a four-way stop effective Monday, August 20 at 6 a.m. The signs have been installed and are covered until that date.
Currently, the intersection has stop signs for traffic on Sycamore Drive with no stop signs for traffic on Buckner Lane.
The issue of a lack of visibility for vehicles turning onto Buckner Lane from Sycamore Drive was discussed at the June 21 meeting of the Traffic Commission. Several options were discussed with the Traffic Commission voting to convert the intersection into a four-way stop.
This section of Buckner Lane is adjacent to Immanuel Baptist Church and Clark Elementary School which has periods of increased traffic and streetside parking leading to difficulty in navigating the intersection with Sycamore Drive due to its geometry.
As a reminder, the stop signs are covered with bags until August 20 to get the public acclimated to the upcoming change. The new stop signs will become active on that date.
