With the forecast of showers and thunderstorms Friday night and Saturday, Paducah Main Street’s Spring Spruce Up is being moved to tomorrow, April 13.

The community is invited to come downtown on April 13 to help with the beautification of historic downtown Paducah.  Spring Spruce Up will start at 10 a.m.  During that time, volunteers, downtown residents, and businesses will spend time beautifying the flower beds and planters, picking up litter, and refreshing the mulch in the downtown flower beds.

City of Paducah Planning Director Tammara Tracy says, “We recognize that many people may not be able to help due to work and family obligations, but if you can come help for a little bit of time, it will be greatly appreciated.  We are going to have 150 petunias and sweet potato vines to plant in the downtown planters.  Plus, we have received a donation of more than 70 yellow daylily plants that need to be planted.”

Tracy adds, “I want to thank all the members of Paducah’s garden clubs for their assistance in this effort.  Their expertise is greatly appreciated as we work to beautify downtown before the arrival of all the QuiltWeek visitors.”

Volunteers should meet at the gazebo at 2nd and Broadway at 10 a.m. for instructions.  Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves, water bucket, and gardening tools.  However, gloves will be provided if needed.  Volunteers will be assigned an area including Market Square, the gazebo area, sections of Broadway, 3rd Street, and sections of Kentucky Avenue and Jefferson Street.  All of the mulch and plants will be on site that morning.  Plants are being provided by Phelps Farm Store with the mulch provided by the Paducah Parks & Recreation Department.

Partners for this event include volunteers, the City of Paducah Parks & Recreation Department, Paducah Main Street (a division of the Paducah Planning Department), Adopt-A-Spot participants, local garden clubs, and downtown stakeholders.
