2021 Veterans Day Celebration

Below are various activities organized by the City of Paducah and other organizations to honor veterans on Veterans Day, November 11.  We appreciate the support of sponsors, WPSD-Local 6 and Milner & Orr. This list may not include all of the local events.  Please check with churches or other organizations to learn more about activities to honor and celebrate veterans. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to keep our veterans safe and healthy, the annual Veterans Day Parade will not be held this year. 

Sunrise Reveille - The Veterans Day Sunrise Reveille will begin at 6 a.m. at the corner of Broadway and Water Street on November 11.  Reveille will be played following the raising of the flag by members of the U.S. Coast Guard.  Broadway will be closed to traffic from the last entrance to the gazebo parking lot toward the floodwall opening for the event. 

Award Presentation - The City of Paducah is partnering with WPSD Local 6 to honor veterans during WPSD’s Midday newscast on November 11.

Concert and Recognition of Essay & Poster Contest Winners - A Celebration of Our Veterans Concert featuring the Paducah Community Band will be held at the Julian Carroll Convention Center from 6 until 7 p.m.  Plus, the winners of the Veterans Day Essay & Poster Contest, a contest for students in kindergarten through 12th grade hosted by the Parks & Recreation Department and the Daughters of the American Revolution, will be showcased.

Distinguished Veteran Award, Patriot Award, and Poster & Essay Contest 

Distinguished Veteran Award - For the Distinguished Veteran Award, preference is given to candidates who currently reside in McCracken County and stay active and involved in their community.  Anyone, male or female, who has served in any branch of the military may be nominated. Distinguished Veteran Award 2021 Application (October 22, 2021 deadline) 

Patriot Award - The Patriot Award is presented to a non-veteran, a citizen who dedicates his or her time to serving veterans and veteran causes in this community.  Patriot Award 2021 Application (deadline October 22, 2021)

2020 Veterans Day

Distinguished Veteran and Patriot Award:  WPSD-Local 6 partnered with the City of Paducah to honor 2020 Distinguished Veteran Rubel Ramage and 2020 Patriot Award Winner Katherine Toy on the November 11th Midday newscast.  A special thank you to Milner & Orr for sponsoring the beautiful plaques and basket of items that were presented by Mayor Brandi Harless and Mary Beth Orr to Ramage and Toy. 

Distinguished Veteran 1st Sgt. Ramage retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1970 after serving the country in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. 

Patriot Award winner Katherine Toy is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  Among her many contributions to local veterans, she currently is sewing face masks for veterans to protect their health.
