Crossroads for Growth Features Local Business Owner and Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Katie Englert

Date of Release:
September 24, 2024

On the latest episode of Crossroads for Growth, Mayor George Bray talks with Katie Englert, owner of Compass Counseling, two Chicken Salad Chick locations, and Board Chair of the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce. A native of Lewisport, Kentucky, Katie moved to Paducah in 2011 to be closer to family, fell in love with the opportunities in Paducah, and has emerged as a community leader.

Mayor George Bray said, “I wanted to sit down and talk with Katie to understand better how she has accomplished so much and what fuels her entrepreneurial spirit. Katie is wearing many hats and is contributing to the growth of the Paducah area by being an entrepreneur and owner of two businesses while also advocating for all businesses at the local, state, and federal level as the chair of the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce. She can be an example for those who want to seize business opportunities when they emerge.”

Regarding serving as board chair for the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce, Englert said, “We represent all businesses, whether you are a member or not, in our community with our efforts, how we spend our time, and our focus.”

Englert, a third-generation entrepreneur and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, opened Compass Counseling in 2013 and received the Chamber’s Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2019.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, Englert said that mental health awareness rose to a new level.

“Collectively as we were experiencing such a huge unprecedented event, we were all more aware of our mental health through being by ourselves, the isolation, the loneliness, and lots of different factors that came along with COVID. In my opinion, it just elevated the importance and awareness that we all have mental health,” said Englert.

Other topics discussed during this episode include Englert’s decisions to open Chicken Salad Chick in two locations, how she balances a busy work and family life, and what’s next on the horizon as an entrepreneur.

In addition to airing on Government 11 (for Comcast subscribers), the episode also is online at paducahky.gov and the various social media outlets for the City of Paducah including Youtube and Facebook.
