A project to improve Stuart Nelson Park Road begins Monday, August 4. Once completed, this roadway will be one of the main entrances for the Paducah Sports Park which is currently under construction.
Once the road rehabilitation begins, all Paducah Sports Park construction traffic will be diverted to the Downs Drive entrance into the Sports Park. For the businesses and residences on Stuart Nelson Park Road, crews will work to maintain one lane of traffic. However, there will be temporary closures of the roadway to install cross drains for new sewer pipes. Also, there will brief periods when a driveway entrance may be inaccessible.
The road improvement project includes widening Stuart Nelson Park Road within the right-of-way limits to improve safety and traffic flow. Furthermore, the project includes the addition of curbs and gutters, a new stormwater collection trunk line, and a sidewalk along the east side of the roadway.
Another improvement to the roadway will be at the intersection with Park Avenue. Stuart Nelson Road will be widened to allow for three lanes. This will allow vehicles that are exiting the road onto Park Avenue to have two lanes: one for turning left and one for turning right. Currently, there is only one lane for traffic to use to turn onto Park Avenue.
The entire project will take approximately eight weeks, weather-permitting. Those who travel this roadway should expect reduced speeds and delays along with temporary driving surfaces along the roadway and at the entrances to existing businesses and residential properties.
Work on this project will be completed by general contractor, A&K Construction, with subcontractor Central Paving.
