Date of Release:
June 10, 2026

The City of Paducah invites the community to a Flag Day Celebration on Monday, June 15 from 9 until 10 a.m. at Dolly McNutt Memorial Plaza located at 301 South 5th Street. The event includes a flag raising ceremony, the singing of the national anthem by County Commissioner Richard Abraham, remarks by Paducah Mayor George Bray and McCracken County Judge Executive Craig Clymer, educational displays, and activities for children.

“Flag Day reminds us of the values that unite us as Americans and the pride we share in our nation’s history,” said Paducah Mayor George Bray. “As we honor the American flag and all it represents, I invite all residents of Paducah/McCracken County to join us in celebrating the freedoms we enjoy, the sacrifices that made them possible, and the strong sense of community that makes our community such a special place.”

The Flag Day Celebration will take place on the Washington Street side of the park at the flag pole. Washington Street between 5th and 6th streets will be closed for the event. This event will be held rain or shine unless storms are in the area.

The event is organized by the Paducah Parks & Recreation Department in partnership with the Sons of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution, U.S. Coast Guard, McCracken County Public Library, and the City of Paducah Police and Fire departments.

Flag Day commemorates June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress approved the design of a national flag. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation establishing June 14 as National Flag Day.
