Beginning Monday, November 18, a contractor working for the City of Paducah will begin mobilizing for a storm sewer installation project that will require the closing of South 24th Street from South 25th Street to the bridge just south of Seitz Street. This is the first phase of a project to improve South 24th Street. The entire construction project is expected to take approximately six months.
During this project, no through traffic will be permitted; however, residents will be able to access their homes.
During this first phase of the project, crews with Jim Smith Contracting will be completing the storm sewer installation. Once the storm sewer is completed on this stretch of South 24th Street, crews will then work on South 24th Street between the bridge and South 28th Street.
After the storm sewer work is complete, Harper Construction crews will construct new curbs and sidewalks. The paving of the roadway will occur next spring.
The bridge on South 24th Street over Cross Creek was rehabilitated in 2020. It is a wider bridge to improve drainage and accommodate ADA-compliant sidewalks on both sides of the bridge. This South 24th Street project will improve drainage and walkability for the neighborhood and tie the roadway into the improved bridge.
Please use caution, watch for the work crews, and respect the traffic control devices.
The City of Paducah maintains more than 220 miles of streets. Visit Streets for a map showing upcoming paving projects.
