As the local region is expecting its first winter weather system for 2025 to arrive within the next few hours, the City of Paducah has been treating the primary routes and many secondary routes within the city.
City of Paducah Public Works Department crews have been spraying brine to reduce ice accumulation on roadways and adding salt to bridges.
This storm system will begin Saturday night and the early morning hours on Sunday. Due to the cold temperatures, the initial precipitation will likely be freezing rain and then transition to mainly rain later in the day on Sunday. Some ice accumulation is possible. Then, as the storm system travels to the east of the region, the wrap around moisture will arrive behind the low pressure system in the form of rain, freezing rain, and snow Sunday night and early Monday.
For your safety and to allow Public Works crews and emergency personnel to efficiently and safely perform their jobs, please avoid travelling on Sunday and into Monday. If you need to travel, please allow a significant amount of space between vehicles especially between salt/brine trucks and snow plows. Also, be prepared by travelling with extra blankets, water and food, and a charged cellphone along with sand or kitty litter to provide traction.
Please stay tuned to local media, the National Weather Service office, or your favorite news source for weather updates. A slight shift in the storm system, either north or south, can greatly affect the amount and type of precipitation expected in the Paducah area.
