Ponderings from Paducah

Value of Code Enforcement

When you think about what makes Paducah great, I bet you don’t consider the value our Code Enforcement Officers bring to the community. We have three dedicated Code officers and a Battalion Chief who work out of the Fire Prevention Division at City Hall. Their job is to protect Paducah’s health, safety, and vitality.

By holding our community accountable for the adopted codes and ordinances, they are helping your neighborhood maintain its property values and safety along with improving the quality of life along your street.

Their focus is on property maintenance issues including overgrown yards, dilapidated homes, accumulated garbage, and more. These employees may be focusing on the tangible items that need to be addressed; however, they are caring and compassionate people. They know that it may take time and money to get a property up-to-code. Therefore, they work hard to encourage residents to take steps to make progress on correcting the issues. Plus, they provide guidance and resources.

If you live near a property that is not up-to-code, please know that our Code officers must give property owners due notification and a chance to take care of their property. Code violations may not be corrected as quickly as you may like, but they are being addressed.

As we work together to keep Paducah safe and attractive, we want property owners to be responsible and responsive. Everyone plays a part in community code enforcement.
