Removal of Concrete Structures Along Riverfront Leads to Temporary Closure of Section of Greenway Trail and North Water Street

Date of Release:
March 13, 2026

The City of Paducah is in the final months of work to complete the Riverfront Infrastructure Improvement Project also known as the BUILD Grant project. During the January 27 meeting of the Paducah Board of Commissioners, City staff provided an update on the project and discussed a separate riverfront effort: removal of the two concrete foundations located on the river side of the floodwall downstream from the Foot of Broadway in Schultz Park.

The City is removing the structures to beautify the area and expand riverfront views. The concrete foundations are remnants of a former conveyor system once used to offload materials from barges.

A contractor working for the City of Paducah, Jim Smith Contracting, will begin removing the structures on Monday, March 16. The project is expected to be completed by Friday, March 20, weather-permitting.

During the work, the Greenway Trail and a section of North Water Street on the river side of the floodwall will be closed to pedestrians and vehicular traffic. The closure area extends from the linear parking area at the North 2nd Street floodwall opening adjacent to the transient boat dock to the floodwall openings at the Farmers’ Market parking lot and at Water Street and Jefferson Street. The linear parking area will remain open.

Please use caution and respect all traffic control devices and barricades.
