Temporary Closure of Section of Greenway Trail in Downtown Paducah Begins Today as Part of Riverfront Infrastructure Improvement Project (BUILD Grant)

Date of Release:
October 01, 2025

A section of the Greenway Trail in downtown Paducah will be closed to the public beginning today through Wednesday, October 8 for work related to the Riverfront Infrastructure Improvement Project (BUILD grant project).

The section of trail is from the Paducah-McCracken County Convention Center to the transient boat dock area. Furthermore, the floodwall opening at Executive Boulevard will be closed to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic. This area is behind the Holiday Inn Paducah Riverfront. Access to the Holiday Inn’s parking lot will be from the Convention Center parking lot.

The closure is to allow the City’s contractor, Jim Smith Contracting, to mill, pave, and pour curbs and gutters along the roadway that runs adjacent to the Greenway Trail.

The Riverfront Infrastructure Improvement Project includes several elements: construction of a 500-foot-long excursion pier and excursion plaza, intersection improvements at the entrance to the Convention Center at 5th Street and Park Avenue, development of a multimodal pathway adjacent to the Quilt Murals, creation of a compass rose feature and enhanced park space with a terraced mound and seating near the transient dock, and the installation of new bus shelters.

The City of Paducah is using a $10.4 million grant (Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant) through the Maritime Administration along with $3.5 million in State funds to cover the majority of the construction cost of this project. Crews began mobilizing on the BUILD project on November 21, 2024. Substantial completion of the BUILD Grant project is scheduled for June 2026.
